Argument ends in arrestBy John MillerPublished Wednesday, August 8, 2001 in the Nevada County Picayune It was a case of the pot calling the kettle black with a twist, this time the pot was arrested. According to court records, Angela Donlin, 33, of Hope, went to her parole officer, Kathy LeBourgeois, saying Terry Spell had beat her. According to Donlin, she and Spell had got out of a vehicle and were going to the house when he began taunting and shoving her, then grabbing her hair and throwing her against a garage wall. She claimed he knocked her down, got on her chest and attempted to choke her. Donlin managed to get Spell's hand from her neck, only to have him kick her in the ribs, records state. She told him she'd get her things and get leave, only to have him deny her access to the house, then shoving her into the yard, according to the records. After being tossed into the yard, Donlin said Spell came over hugged and tried to kiss her, saying he was sorry. She reportedly shoved him off and got into the truck, rolling the windows up and locking the doors. Spell allegedly kicked in the back sliding glass, grabbed her hair, opened the door and pulled her out. Once out, he reportedly kicked her in the stomach, knocking her into a car parked by the truck. Donlin asked him to take her to the hospital. He agreed, if she'd first shower and clean up. On the way, Spell reportedly turned onto a dirt road, saying it was the back way in by Rocky Mound Road. She asked him to stop and tell her where they were going. According to the records, he responded saying they were going back home because her hand had stopped bleeding. Donlin allegedly grabbed some things from the truck and jumped out, saying she was going to the hospital. Spell reportedly tried to follow her, only to have Donlin threaten to shoot him. She said she returned to the truck, getting in on the driver's side and prepared to go to the hospital, when Spell yanked open the passenger's side door and told her to go ahead and shoot him. Instead, she said, she hit the gas and left. Spell's side of the story differed considerably. He said about midnight on July 24, they had a disagreement with him telling Donlin to leave. They reportedly wrestled, with her striking him several times. During the wrestling, Donlin cut her hand. Donlin wanted to go to the hospital, but Spell tried to talk her out of it as he didn't think the cut was bad. Still, they started to go, only to have Donlin jump out of the truck grab a gun, point it at Spell and tell him to "get away from my truck or I going to kill you." Officials ran a background check on Donlin and found she had a felony record for burglary and theft of property from 1985. She was charged with domestic battery in the third degree, terroristic threatening, a class D felony, and certain person in possession of a firearm, also a class D felony. Class D felonies carry sentences in prison up to six years and fines up to $10,000. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
