John M. Parr, 71, of Royal died Sunday, July 1, 2001, in a Hot Springs hospital.

Parr was born January 14, 1930, in DeValls Bluff to Finch and Lois Anderson Parr.

He was retired from Eastman Kodak Co., in Memphis, Tenn.

He was a member and active deacon at Antioch Baptist Church in Royal, attended DeValls Bluff schools and Little Rock University and served in the U.S. Navy, U.S.S. Valley Forge in the Korean Conflict.

He was preceded in death by his parents and by one daughter, Pamela Kay Parr, two brothers, Troy and Ernest Parr and a sister, Dorothy Parr Lee.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Jodie Higginbotham Parr of Royal; one son, John R. Parr of Royal; three sisters, Emogene South of Little Rock, Frankie Long and Garland of DeWitt and Linda Mitchell and Vernon of Carlisle; two brothers, Byzie Parr and Jeanette of North Little Rock and Jimmy Parr and Carolyn of Hazen; one granddaughter, Julie Parr Stevens and David of Royal; one brother-in-law, Dr. Arlis W. Loe of Texarkana, Texas; one sister-in-law, Peggy Loe of Texarkana, Texas, and several nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services were held Thursday, July 5, at Caruth-Hale Funeral Home Chapel in Hot Springs with Bro. Bill Harris and Bro. Billy Chesshir officiating.

Graveside services were held Thursday, July 5, at Caney Cemetery with Rev. Raymond Hicks officiating. Pallbearers were Fletcher McKelvy, Phil Marlar, Fred Jarvis, Roy Bullock, James Greis and Clyde Weston.

Memorials may be made to Gideons International Bible fund or the American Lung Association.
