Fishing derby set at Gurdon LakeJohn MillerPublished Wednesday, July 18, 2001 in the Gurdon Times Gurdon area youngsters, 13 and under, are invited to participate in the first Gurdon Times Fishing Derby. The derby is scheduled for Saturday, July 27, with registration beginning at 7 a.m. and fishing starting at 7:30 at Gurdon Lake, ending at noon. Parents need to understand this is not a babysitting event. Adult supervision is required for all anglers. Those doing the fishing must follow all Arkansas Game and Fish Commission rules and regulations. Fishermen are also required to furnish their own bait and tackle for the event. Tee-shirts will be given to the first 36 who register. Along with the shirts, all participants will receive a prize packet. By fishing in the derby, implied consent is given to the Times to use photographs of the anglers. This derby is a catch-and-release event, with the fish to be returned to the lake alive after being caught. However, before the fish are put back in the water, a member of the derby staff should be notified to verify the catch. The Gurdon Rotary Club will be on hand in the early part of the event with juice and such for those fishing. Anyone misconduct by those participating in the event will result in the person being dismissed from the derby. Anyone dismissed will be required to leave and not return until the derby has ended. This also goes for any adult at the event. The idea of the derby is to let the young people have a fun morning of fishing in the lake and visiting with friends. So, check out the tackle, find all favorite baits and get ready to come to the first Gurdon Times Fishing Derby. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
