Mayor VP of AMLJohn MillerPublished Wednesday, July 18, 2001 in the Nevada County Picayune Prescott Mayor Howard Taylor has been named vice president of the Arkansas Municipal League's fourth district. Taylor attended the AML meeting in June at the Peabody/Excelsior Hotel and Statehouse Convention and Conference Center. Taylor will serve a one-year term, already underway. He began his political career in Prescott as city clerk/recorder from September, 1973 until August, 1994, when he was appointed interim mayor after the death of James Johnson. He has since been elected mayor from 1995 until now. Some of his accomplishments in office include the purchase of 134 acres of land with infrastructure for the industrial park; helping to get Christus St. Michael Hospital to build a $1 million clinic and locating a full-time doctor in it; getting a new senior adult center built for $600,000; working on easements for the Prescott Rural Water Project; and, in the near future, construction of a 7,500 square foot library and education center at a cost of $1 million. Additionally, Taylor was named Citizen of the Year in 1997. He and his wife, Jeannie, have been married 45 years. They have two children, one son and one daughter, and four grandchildren. He is also an elder in the Prescott Church of Christ. During the convention in Little Rock, Taylor was recognized as a mayor dedicated to economic development, better schools, downtown restoration and improved infrastructure.
