Clark County has named its Extension Homemaker of the year, with this year's recipient being Sybil Harris.

Harris has been a resident of Clark County all her life and an extension homemaker for more than 40 years.

She is well known throughout the county for the activities for which she participates in.

Harris has been described by her friends as caring, steadfast, loyal, helpful, true, patient, strong, knowledgeable, teacher, protector and friend. It has also been said Harris lives what she encourages in others.

Harris is passionate about her church, her family and friends, and her Extension Homemaker's Club. She is a member of the First Baptist Church of Gurdon and enjoys working with the children in children's church.

She is also currently vice-president of her Women's Church Circle and never misses a meeting. She is also President of the Women's Missionary Association at First Baptist and participates in outreach programs for different members of the church.

Harris' family is a big part of her life. Her daughter, Diana Bloomfield, attends EHC activities with her and the two are often seen eating Sunday lunch together, along with Diana's husband, Larry.

Harris has grandsons who are busy with their own lives now, but will never have a better friend or supporter than their grandmother.

She has attended every T-ball game this season to support her great-nephew Max.

Some people in Gurdon say she and her sister hold the record for the most puzzles put together.

Harris is active in the Red Springs EHC, where she is vice president and health and wellness chairman.

She has also volunteered her time to be the 2001-2003 secretary/treasurer and the leadership chairman.

Harris also helps out in the EHC kitchen at the Clark County Fair, where some of the best home cooking around can be found.

She presents programs at the EHC meetings and has been asked to share her programs with the South Central EHC.

If you ever find yourself in a bad situation where you might need disaster assistance or CPR, Harris is the lady to be around. She has been trained by the American Red Cross and certified during one of many EHC programs.

On the county EHC level, Harris is involved with planning Family Care of the Elderly program, and the 2001-2002 county yearbook. She served as the county home and community chairman the past two years, and will serve as the county leadership development chairman for the next two years.

She enters crafts and projects in the county fair each year and helps all her friends transport their crafts to the fair also.

When Harris isn't busy with her family or the EHC meetings and activities, she is busy being a good Samaritan. She chauffeurs people to the doctor, the hairdresser, the store, or to the Gurdon Senior Adult Center where she is found every day at 11 o'clock.

She also takes time out of her busy schedule to visit with friends in the nursing home.

When she's not out and about she can be found at home taking care of her yard or watching the Arkansas Razorbacks.

She also makes beautiful quilts and loves to crochet and cross-stitch.
