Bluff CityJerry McKelvyPublished Wednesday, April 21, 1999 in the Nevada County Picayune The dreaded income tax day has passed. Mark Twain said the difference between a taxidermist and a tax collector is that the taxidermist takes only your skin. I was pleasantly surprised one morning last week when I turned on the radio and heard Le Ann Farr singing and being interviewed. She was singing a Patsy Cline song and sounded very much like Patsy. Le Ann has been performing in this area for some time and is presently attending college in Magnolia. She is the daughter of Charles and Patricia Farr. Our other songsters, Stacy and Jennifer Hildebrand, recently performed at the Hogskin Holidays in Hampton. Millard and Elloene McBride visited their daughter, Norma, in El Dorado recently and attended a special church service. The last burial at Bluff City was on April 2. Daniel Starnes of Camden passed away suddenly from an aneurysm. He was the 18-year-old son of Fred and Pam Starnes and grandson of Marcus and Marguerite Starnes. Joanie Sellers returned to school after spending a few days in a Little Rock hospital being treated for a diabetic condition. She is the granddaughter of Bill and Kay Sellers. Glen Walker, a former resident of Bluff City, also spent some time in the hospital at Little Rock for tests and treatment. He is the brother of Bill Walker and Nell Wanda McKelvy of Bluff City. A clean-up day is planned for Ebenezer Cemetery on April 24. The annual Bluff City School reunion will be held on May 1 in Prescott. The school existed in Bluff City until 1951, when it was consolidated with Prescott. I haven't heard of anyone bragging about the turkey they killed. If you are a turkey hunter, be careful and make sure it's a turkey before you shoot. Here is an item reported in the news May 10, 1917. A large ton and + motor truck passed through Prescott enroute to Bluff City to be used by the firm of Upton and Harvey to haul freight from the railroad to Bluff City. Mark Twain once said, "Be careful about reading health books. You might die of a misprint." Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
