Cowling Reliever Of Week

Prescott's Ross Cowling is making his presence known at Southern Arkansas University.

Recently Cowling was named pitcher of the week in the Gulf South Conference.

He had two saves in four appearances as SAU, winners of 13 of its last 14, became the third team to lead the west division. Cowling gave up three runs, two earned, six hits and fanned eight in six and a third innings.

From 1995-97 Cowling was a valuable part of the Prescott pitching staff.

In his career at PHS Cowling's team won 31 games in three seasons, were the district 7AA runners up twice, made it to the quarterfinals of the class AA state tourney as well as the semifinals of the big event once.

Cowling went 3-2 on the hill in his junior year, pitching 48 innings, fanning 65 and allowing 37 hits.

As a senior he boasted a 9-2 record. He spent 71 innings pitching, fanned 119 and gave up 52 hits.

He was named All District, All State, Arkansas High School Baseball Coaches Association All Star and Most Valuable Player of the All Star game.

Cowling pitched at Texarkana College in '98 before transferring to SAU this season.
