GPD, CCSO make drug bustBy John MillerPublished Wednesday, June 13, 2001 in the Gurdon Times A joint effort between the Gurdon Police Department and Clark County Sheriff's Office has led to the arrest of Billy Campbell, 45. Shortly after 6 a.m. Tuesday, June, 5, officers with the GPD and CCSO, along with the Group 6 Narcotics Enforcement Unit, arrested Campbell at his home on 8th Street in Gurdon, where they seized approximately $3,000 worth of cocaine and drug paraphernalia normally used to process it into crack. In addition, the officers seized $2,500 in cash. According to Gurdon City Marshal Don Childres, the officers also seized two vehicles Campbell owned. Currently, Campbell was first held as a parole violator. Childres said Campbell's prior arrest was also drug related. He has been charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, possession of drug paraphernalia and maintaining a drug premises. These are all class Y felonies carrying a sentence of 10-40 years or life. Campbell was also charged with second degree battery for striking an officer and resisting arrest. While executing the search warrant, a deputy with the CCSO was slightly injured by Campbell. According to Clark County Sheriff Troy Tucker, the arrest and drug seizure culminates an investigation initiated from complaints about drugs being sold from Campbell's home.
