Bill Merchant, 67, of Spring Hill, died Friday, June 1, 2001 at John McClellan VA Hospital in Little Rock.

He was born April 2, 1934, in McCaskill, to Jesse and Olive Folsom Merchant.

He was a retired Truck Driver from Meyers Bakery. He was a Christian and a Baptist. He was Commander of V.F.W. Post 4511 of Hope. He was District No. 10 Chaplain and former District No. 10 Commander. He was an Army and Navy Veteran of the Korean War. He was preceded in death by two sons, Jerry Boone and Chuck Merchant.

Survivors include: his wife of 14 years, Mary Beth Merchant of Spring Hill; six sons, Roger Boone and Gary Merchant of Nashville, Leroy Boone of Liverpool, New York, Andrew Collins of Spring Hill, Chad Collins of Desota, Texas and Michael Collins of San Diego, California; three daughters, Barbara Linville of Hope, Tina Crocker and Billie Jo Dildy of Nashville; one brother, Herman Merchant of Visalia, California; two sisters, Orene Moore of Bryant and Irene Hockersmith of Little Rock; 30 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were at 10 a.m., Tuesday, June 5, 2001 at Brazzel/Oakcrest Funeral Home Chapel in Hope with Rev. Darrell Clements officiating. Burial was in Macedonia Cemetery in Blevins. Arrangements by Brazzel/Oakcrest Funeral Home of Hope.

Family received friends Monday, June 4, 2001 from 6-8 p.m. at the Funeral Home. Camden V.F.W. Honor Guard served as pallbearers and Hot Springs V.F.W. Honor Guard will conduct the graveside services.
