Festival SuccessfulBy John MillerPublished Wednesday, June 6, 2001 in the Nevada County Picayune Patrons of the 14th Annual Prescott-Nevada County Chamber of Commerce Chicken and Egg Festival got a surprise with a mini-carnival. The carnival, featuring rides and games, was an added attraction to the festival. However, those attending didn't necessarily go to the festival for the rides and carnival games, even though the carnival was well attended. Instead, people went for the different events, sporting and otherwise, held every year. According to Chamber Director Mary Godwin, the attendance was up some for the festival, and the men's softball and tennis tournament had more entries than ever. Several comments were made as to the quality of the variety show, Godwin said, with everyone enjoying the different acts on stage. The variety show offered something for almost everyone, ranging from children getting their start in "show business" to seasoned veterans of local stage. Looking at results from some of the events, there were no losers in the remote control car event, as everyone involved went home with a trophy. The street division was won by Chase Haynes, with Colton Hardin second. Alex Haynes captured the top spot in the pro stock class of the remote car event, Hardin was second with Shane and Steven Vansickle tying for third. In the off road event, Chase Haynes was the winner, with Chris Dendy second and Alex Haynes third. One of the most popular contests at the festival is the golden egg hunt. This could be because whoever finds the golden egg goes home with $100 in cold, hard cash. This year's winner was Josh Bullock. When it comes to fun events, it's hard to beat the cackling and crowing contest. In the youth division, Casey Key was the winner and took home $25, Skyler Reeder finished second, earning $15, with William Colbert being third, and getting $10. For the adults, Cole Hilary got $25 for winning, with Bret Richards second, earning $15, and Levi Fitch finishing third. He won $10 for his effort. For parents, nothing tops the Little Mister Rooster and Little Miss Hen pageants. Breanna Hendrix won the 2001 title for the 0-23 month group. Calley Brynn Callicott was first runner up, and also best dressed. Lyndee Marie Sims was second runner up. In the 24 months to three-year-old division, Blakely McClure was the winner and best dressed. First runner up went to Lupe Ramos, with Harli Hicks the second runner up. There were only two contestants in the 4-5-year-old group, with Alexis Hardin taking the crown and being named best dressed. Madison Morrow was the first runner up. Madison Taylor Brady was the lone contestant in the 6-7-year-old category, and was crowned the winner and best dressed. There was only one group for the Little Mister Pageant, with Cade Haynie taking the crown. Derius Phillips was first runner up and best dressed, while Kevin White was second runner up in the 0-23 month contest. Results from the tennis tournament, three-on-three basketball contest, men's and women's softball and 5-k race were unavailable as of press time.
