Festival Time Nearing In Prescott

Believe it or not, it's almost time for the 12th Annual Prescott-Nevada County Chamber of Commerce Chicken and Egg Festival.

In an effort to avoid the sweltering heat of August, the festival has been moved to June 11 and 12.

Mary Godwin, executive director of the Chamber, said the move was made in hopes it would be easier on all participants in the athletic events as well as those visiting the festival.

The festival will continue with its Friday-Saturday format. It will begin with the annual Rotary Chicken Dinner, Friday, June 11.

This will be followed by entertainment on the festival stage, with concession stands and vendors being open for business.

Saturday will be the big day for sporting events, with the tennis tournament, softball tourney, 5k race and fun run, along with the weight lifting and 3-on-3 basketball tourney.

Additionally, the games for younger visitors will be held both Friday and Saturday.

Any club, organization or group interested in participating in the festival should contact Godwin at the Chamber office.

At this time, the festival T-shirts are being made and will soon be on sale to the public. Godwin said they should be ready by the end of April.

She urges all businesses to let their employees wear festival shirts every Friday until the June 11 in support of the event and to get in the spirit of the festival.

The formal announcement of the Prescott Library Project will be made at a reception Friday, April 23, from 9:30-11 a.m. at the community room of St. Michael's Clinic.

State Sen. Mike Ross, along with representatives Percy Malone and Sandra Rodgers will be on hand for the announcement.

This project, Godwin said, is the largest one for downtown Prescott in decades.

The second annual Spring Cleaning Trade Days will be held Saturday, May 2, on the Nevada County Courthouse Lawn.

Anyone wanting to participate needs to contact Godwin at 887-2101 to register, then bring their items for sale or trade to the courthouse on this day.

Those planning to sell or trade goods are responsible for bringing tables and chairs to display their wares. There is no fee to participate, but all wanting to be there should call Godwin by Wednesday, April 28.

Another meeting will be held with area farmers to finalize details for the second farmer's market in Prescott.

Last year's event was successful and has warranted continuation. The market could open as early as the middle of May and will again be held in the city park.

This year, farmers will sell their produce Monday, Wednesday and Friday, from 8 a.m. until they are sold out.

A banner will be put up this year as a reminder of the market.

Anyone interested in bringing produce to the market should call the Chamber at 887- 2101.

The Prescott Housing Authority will host a community coffee at the authority offices on Hale Ave. Monday, April 26, from 9:30-11 a.m.
