Bluff City NewsBY JERRY McKELVYPublished Wednesday, May 30, 2001 in the Nevada County Picayune James and Kay Nelson were flying high last week (literally). They flew from Prescott to Clarksville and back with their son Andy at the controls. They attended a recital in which granddaughter, Lexi, participated. We had a math test in last week's column. I have some history questions this week. Answers are at the bottom of this column. (1) What governor made the dedication speech at White Oak Lake in 1961? (2) When the law was passed allowing 18-year-olds to vote, which Bluff City couple was the first in Nevada County to register to vote? (3) Who from Bluff City wrote a song called I'm Going Back to Nevada County? (4) Who donated the land for the new part of the Bluff City Cemetery? (5) When was Bluff City incorporated as a city? (6) What was the Bluff City School basketball team called? (7) What was the name of Don Byrd's fish restaurant in Bluff City? (8) Who was the first mayor of Bluff City? (9) Who built and operated the dairy bar on the corner at Bluff City? (10) What happened in 1940 that was a "first" for Bluff City school? Funeral services were held Monday, May 28, for Mrs. Emma Meador of Camden with burial at Bluff City Cemetery. She was the widow of John L. Meador. Laverne Green enjoyed a visit from her daughter Gail and her family over the Memorial Day weekend. Bill and Kay Sellers spent the holiday as usualfishing at Millwood. Answers: (1) Faubus; (2) Bill and Linda Carman; (3) Elmer Meador; (4) Doyle Harvey; (5) 1966; (6) the Dragons; (7) Don's Mr. Catfish; (8) Foy Nelson; (9) Dick Harvey; (10) first year for a girl's basketball team.
