College NewsPublished Wednesday, May 30, 2001 in the Nevada County PicayuneDarren, David and Susan Fain have been placed on the chancellor's list for both the fall and spring semesters at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. Darren is a finance major and David is an education major. Eddie Fain also made all A's and B's at Broward College in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., where he is majoring in aviation. Susan will graduate this summer with a B.F.A. degree in dance. She has been accepted into the UALR School of Nursing for the fall semester. Susan is a member of the Golden Key National Honor Society. Darren, David and Eddie Fain are the sons of Darrel and Susan Fain of Prescott. Friday, May 18, Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia, conferred degrees to 237 students. Of those students 54 graduated with honors. Students attaining a grade point average (GPA) of 3.50-3.74 graduated cum laude, students who earned a GPA of 3.75-3.89 graduated magna cum laude, and students who earned a GPA of 3.90-4.00 graduated summa cum laude, the highest honor bestowed. Kelli Bron Koger and Nick Stockton, both of Prescott were among those graduating in May. Koger received an A.S. in nursing; and Stockton received a B.S. in agriculture business. Laurie Lynn Herring of Willisville graduated summa cum laude with a B.S. in chemistry. Kyla Elizabeth Sweat of McCaskill graduated cum laude with a B.S. in agriculture business; and Ronald Eddy Talley of McCaskill graduated with an M.Ed. in secondary education. Those from Hope graduating were Crystal Anita Anderson, summa cum laude with a B.S.E. in elementary education; John Jason Gutierrez, with a B.S. in computer science; and Michael Brian Townsend, with a B.B.A. in business administration-management. AMBER SAMS Amber Sams, daughter of Alita and Carl Sams, a 2001 graduate of Blevins High School, has been awarded an Arkansas Academic Challenge Scholarship, the Donnie Wilson Scholarship and a Leadership Scholarship from the University of Arkansas at Monticello, where she plans to attend in the fall. She plans to major in biology. Sams was salutatorian of her senior class, and she was named to Who's Who Among American High School Students for four consecutive years. She also received the Presidents Education Award and a Recognition Certificate as an honor student from Gov. Mike Huckabee.
