Roland Culp, 64, of Ft. Worth, Texas, formerly of Prescott, departed this life Friday, May 18, 2001, at a Ft. Worth hospital.

Mr. Culp was born May 22, 1936, in Gurdon to John Allen and Annie Bayless Culp. He graduated from Gurdon High School and received his B.A. from Henderson State Teacher's College (now Henderson State University) in 1958. Following his discharge from active duty in the U.S. Army Reserve, where he achieved the rank of Captain, he was employed by Ozan Lumber Co. Subsequently, he became manager of Prescott Federal Savings and Loan Association and later was president of the institution. Mr. Culp was chairman of the Arkansas State Savings and Loan Board, a member of the board of directors of the United States Savings Association, a trustee of the Financial Information Trust and president of the Arkansas Savings and Loan League in 1977. In Ft. Worth he managed Marble Renewal, a family owned business, until his retirement. At the time of his death, he was a replacement for teachers in the Ft. Worth Independent School District, challenging the elementary age children in their education. He was a member of the Genesis United Methodist Church in Ft. Worth. He was preceded in death by his father, John Allen Culp.

His survivors include his wife, Martha Ligon Culp of Ft. Worth; his mother, Annie Culp of Burleson, Texas; four sons and daughters-in-law, John A. Culp and Roxie of Little Rock; Wayne Culp and Pamela of Burlson, Texas; David Culp and Nancy of Stuttgart and Jim Culp of Allen, Texas; one brother and sister-in-law, Tommy Culp and Janice of Houston, Texas; and five grandchildren, Haley Culp, Rachel Culp, John Culp, Benjamin Culp, and Greg Culp.

Funeral services were to be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 22, at First United Methodist Church in Prescott with Rev. John Robbins of Granbury, Texas, and Rev. Jim Lenderman officiating. Burial was in DeAnn Cemetery in Prescott. Pallbearers were Don Roberts, George Royster, John Vansickle, Charles Cabe, Charles Long, Alex Gordon, Jorge Nasser and Searcy Harrell. Burial arrangements were under the direction of Brazzel/Cornish Funeral Home of Prescott.
