Hershey's Youth Track & Field Meet Planned

The Prescott Parks and Recreation Department will host a Hershey's track and field youth meet at the PHS football and track stadium this Friday, May 25.

Registration is free and will begin at 5:00 p.m.

The events are divided into three age groups (9/10, 11/12 and 13/14) for boys and girls. A participants age is as of December 31, 2001. Boys and girls will not compete against each other.

First and second place winners in each event are qualified for the Arkansas state meet in Russellville. Results from that meet will be sent to the Region Four chairman and at least five winners from the Arkansas state meet will win an all expense paid trip to the national finals held in Hershey, Penn., in August (four days at Hershey Theme Park, tour Hershey Chocolate Factory, banquet, meet Olympic athletes, gifts from sponsors and compete in national finals.)

Participants may not wear shoes designated for spikes. In field events any shoes designed for turf sports are not allowed. Participants may not compete in their bare feet, slippers or socks.

Starting blocks are not permitted.

A participant may compete in only three events (two running and one field event or one running and two field events). Relays are included as a running event. A participant may not compete in three running events.

Jewelry, sunglasses and/or headwear will not be allowed during competition.

The Hershey Youth program has been a national event and now a North American event for the past 22 years. It promotes physical fitness, participates, friendship and sportsmanship.
