Officers with the Nevada County Sheriff's Office were involved in a manhunt during the weekend.

According to reports, deputy Danny Martin was patrolling on Highway 53, heading south Saturday evening around 7, when he saw a man walking down the road.

Martin turned around and went back to the man, who was later identified as Michael Thompson.

Martin asked where Thompson was going, and was told to Bodcaw. The deputy then asked to see some identification, with Thompson giving him the name of Scott Thomas, and a date of birth of Dec. 12, 1964. A check was ran on this name, and came back showing no record.

Thompson was then asked if he had any weapons. He told Martin no, but admitted having a beer in his pocket.

Martin did a pat-down search on Thompson, then asked to see his wallet. The wallet contained a pay stub bearing the name Mike Thompson.

A check was then ran on this name, but while it was being done, Thompson ran into the woods, with Martin unable to stop him.

The NCSO was notified about the situation, with Sheriff Steve Otwell and other deputies coming to assist in the hunt for Thompson.

The officers searched for two hours before calling it a night.

Around 10 a.m. Sunday, May 20, a call was made to the NCSO concerning the Thompson being sighted on Highway 53 near Bodcaw residence.

Officers responded, positioning themselves at the doors, only to have Thompson climb through a window. This time, though, he didn't get away.

A search of his person turned up a three-inch pipe, wire and residue of white powder.

Thompson was charged with fleeing, criminal impersonation, resisting arrests and possession of an instrument of crime.

In addition, Thompson is wanted in Louisiana for probation violation. Authorities from Louisiana have notified the NCSO as to their desire to extradite Thompson.

DOMESTIC BATTERY

Disagreeing on when to go to bed led to a 38-year-old Rosston man to be charged with second degree domestic battery.

According to Wayne Kisselburg, criminal investigator for the NCSO, Earlee Marsh and his girlfriend were arguing about whether or not to go to bed on Saturday, May 12.

It was 1 a.m. and he wanted to go to bed, though she didn't.

She went inside to get her purse and leave, but was followed by Marsh, who was trying to keep her from going.

She grabbed a knife and went outside. Marsh followed, picking up a hickory stick and beating her with it.

The beating put her in the hospital for three days. She suffered a blow to the right side of her head and some broken ribs, Kisselburg said.

Marsh was charged with second degree domestic battery, a class C felony. This carries a sentence from 3-10 years in prison and a fine up to $10,000.
