Festival Set For June 1st, 2ndBY JOHN MILLERPublished Wednesday, May 23, 2001 in the Nevada County Picayune Zero hour is fast approaching for the 13th Annual Prescott-Nevada County Chamber of Commerce Chicken and Egg Festival. The festival will be held June 1-2, at the Prescott City Park. Mary Godwin, Chamber director, said those planning on entering any of the sporting competitions need to get their applications in soon. The deadline for entering the athletic contests is May 25. A late addition to the event list is the second annual remote control car contest. As it was last year, the RC contest will be in the parking lot of the revenue office. Godwin said the variety show Friday night will be good, and urges visitors to bring lawn chairs to sit back and listen. The show, she said, will highlight talent from Prescott and Nevada County, along with the surrounding area. "It's the best lineup we've had in years." Local crafters are also being encouraged to get a booth and display their wares. Godwin said local artisans and crafters are as good as any shown at the festival and should be showing their work there. Booths run $25 for the two-day event. Entries are also being taken for the Little Mister Rooster and Little Miss Hen pageants. This has turned into one of the most popular events at the festival. Sherry Chadwell is chairing the pageant and accepting entries. To enter a child, call 887-6546 or 887-2101. The FFA alumni group is planning another pee wee rodeo this year, with the focus to be on more events than last year. However, details on the rodeo aren't complete at this time. Godwin said clues for the ever-popular golden egg hunt will be given out at 10 a.m. sharp Saturday. Whoever finds the golden egg will pocket a cool $100. The Chicken and Egg Festival, Godwin said, is family-oriented, as there's something there for people of all ages. It's also more of a sporting festival than one for arts and crafts. Along with the sports, arts and crafts and games, she said, there will be plenty of food vendors, selling such goodies as funnel cakes and shaved ice. Before anyone gets worried or concerned, the pony rides will be back this year, as will the train ride, another very popular part of the festival for the children. T-shirts are still available, Godwin said, with the latest order having recently arrived. Those wanting to buy a T-shirt need to contact Karen McLelland at the Bank of Prescott, 887-2628, or the Chamber at 887-2101. This shirt, Godwin said, is the best one ever for sales. To date, the sale of this design, made by Spot Daniel, has more than doubled the best year ever. These shirts are being shipped all over the U.S. One new event, she said, will be an arts show, sponsored by the Artesian Arts League, Friday and Saturday in the lobby of the Broadway Cafi. The idea behind this event is to showcase local artists. Those wanting to display their work can bring up to two pieces, but they must be framed so they can be hung on the wall. There is no charge for this event. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
