Auction Held For GHS BandPublished Wednesday, May 23, 2001 in the Gurdon TimesThe Gurdon Rotary Club and Gurdon Band Boosters teamed up to earn money for band students to go to band camps at Henderson State University this summer. Even without the politicians there it was still a success, band director Allen Wimberly remarked. "Thanks for all those who came out and enjoyed the delicious burgers and those who bought things at the auction," he said in a more serious note. "Thanks go to the Gurdon Rotarians and Gurdon Band Boosters, who survived the heat and made the sacrifice for band students to have the opportunity to attend band camp," he said. Without the following merchants who donated items this event would not be possible. "Thanks so much for your continued support for all of Gurdon Public Schools, their clubs and organizations," Wimberly said. "Johnny McGuirt, of Ann's Corner, is appreciated for his help by being the auctioneer at the live auction," Wimberly said. "Recognition also goes to Rotarian Paul Barringer who generously donated a lawn mower." Gurdon's merchants were also thanked for their generosity. They are Forget-Me-Knot, Bunnies Florist, Billy's Main Street Florist, Kuhn's Sentry Hardware, Plyler's Hardware, The Shoe Box, K&T Clothing, Austin's Variety Store, Sonic Drive-In, both Red-E-Mart stores, Pizza Barn, Allen's Bar-B-Q, Napa Auto Parts, Billy Joe's Automotive, Dillard's Super Stop, Southfork Truck Stop, Palmer's Service Center, McGee's Grocery, Doug's Grocery, Horne Funeral Home, Thomason's Big Star, Rickett's Diesel and Wrecker Service, Hair It Is, Thomerson's Drug Store, Art and Mary's Cafi, M&M Enterprises, Nick's Barber Shop and Woolf's Citgo Service Station. Wimberly also expressed his appreciation to others: Welch's Country Cafi and Sue Branton (a band mother who contributed three delicious pies) at Curtis; O'Keefe's Fish Net and Cracker Barrel in Caddo Valley; and to those in Arkadelphia: Malone's, Sue's Cards and Gifts, Dan Cook's Office Supplies, Hardman Lumber Co., and Wal-Mart.
