Once again, the City of Rosston has a new secretary, as Ta'na Budd resigned at the April meeting.

At the May meeting of the Rosston City Council, Mayor Lewis Jackson said four applicants had submitted resumes, but two couldn't be considered because they lived outside the city limits.

The other two were Caren Denise Hunt and Brenda Jensen.

In a letter to the council, Hunt told of living in Rosston since 1992, being married to Jeff Hunt and her father being the pastor of Rosston Baptist Church years ago.

Her resume showed she now works for the School of Hope and had worked for Anderson-Frazier Insurance, CATO, Firmins Office City and AMKO Service Company.

Jensen's resume showed her as a 1991 graduate of Nevada High School, and her working as a parts department representative with the Alan White Company since 1998.

The council debated the two applicants, then selected Jensen on a 4-0 vote.

In other business, Jackson said the interior walls are up in the new fire station, but the air conditioning unit hasn't been installed yet.

The state's audit of the city has been completed, he said, with no problems found.

While the city hasn't received formal notice about its new ISO fire rating, Jackson said, a representative with the organization called and said the city will be surprised at what they get as a new rate for the Rosston Volunteer Fire Department. Currently, the VFD is a class 9 department.

The only other matter the board discussed was the census.

According to the information presented, the City of Rosston experienced no change in population from 1990 till 2000.

The population remained 265, according to the census figures. Broken down by race, there are 111 whites, 153 blacks and one of another race.
