Tutors From County Are Recognized

Published Wednesday, May 16, 2001 in the Nevada County Picayune

Tutors from the three Nevada County schools were honored at a special luncheon prepared for them by the Prescott Elementary school cafeteria staff.

Julia Ingram's ambassadors and the SWADC Learning Center had been busy preparing to make the day special for the people who have taken time out of their busy schedules to read with the children. The ambassadors started their work a few months ago by growing plants to give to each tutor. At the luncheon they enthusiastically served and helped whenever needed.

The tutors honored this year from Emmet, Nevada and Prescott were: Jewel Allen, Dorothy Broussard, Flo Brackman, Josh Bullock, Virginia Dillard, Barbara Gairich, Diana Gentry, Darlene Henderson, Mark Jones, Brandi Karlovec, Katie Logue, Rafeal Marlow, Herb Morrow, Carrie Mauldin, Debbie Oliver, Wilma Otwell, Michele Hamilton Rhodes, Nicol Simon and Georgiana Wesson.

Darlene Henderson had the most volunteer hours in one year. Herb Morrow was recognized for promoting men to volunteer. Katie Logue was the youngest volunteer. Virginia Dillard, Flo Brackman and Geogiana Wesson were recognized for there continued dedication service to the program.

Howard Austin, Lloyd Pollock and Natalie Sherwood were recognized for their support of the America Reads Challenge program. Jewel Allen, Mrs. Meeks and Mrs. Ingram were honored for their dedicated work and service to the program, which would not be a success without them.

Not all the tutors recognized were at the luncheon. Those who were there took time to share special moments and feelings that they had shared with the children throughout the year.

Mrs. Meeks presented letters from parents and teachers stating how much the tutors have helped individual children. Mrs. Ingram also presented thank you notes from some of the children.

A tote bag stating, "I Believe in the Future" was a gift to each of the tutors who attended.
