Supplemental Security Income pays monthly checks to people who are aged, disabled or blind and who do not own much or have much income. SSI is not just for adults. Monthly checks can be paid to disabled and blind children. To find out if you are eligible call 1-800-772-1213. The Prescott-Nevada County Chamber of Commerce is asking for help from local artists. Ida Haynie has purchased chickens (plastic) that need to be painted and decorated for the Chicken and Egg Festival. The chicks will then be put them around town in different businesses to promote the festival. Go look at the one at the Bank of Delight. Call the Chamber at 887-2101 for more information or to pick up your chicken. The former Cale School will have a reunion Saturday, May 26, at Cale City Park and Community Center. Anyone who ever attended school at Cale and their family members are welcome. Festivities will begin at 10 a.m. A catering service will furnish the meal. Todd and Traci Rucker of Prescott are proud to announce the birth of their son, Johnny Trey, born Tuesday, May 1, 2001, at Baptist Medical Center in Arkadelphia. He weighed seven pounds and 14 ounces and was 20 inches long. Grandparents are Everett and Lee Jones of Prescott and Johnny and Donna Rucker of Sparkman. Big brothers Trevor, Tyler and Reed welcomed him home. Alliance Insurance will host the Chamber coffee Wednesday, May 16, from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. at the Alliance Insurance office at 117 East Main. Everyone is encouraged to attend. The beautification committee of the Prescott/Nevada County Chamber of Commerce is working on a project and needs your help. Thirty empty gallon milk jugs are needed. If you have an of these you may drop them off at the Chamber office. If you have any questions call 887-2010. The Nevada County Extension Service and the Prescott-Nevada County Chamber of Commerce will host a planning meeting for the area farmers Monday, May 21, at 6:00 p.m. The meeting, which will be held at the Extension office on Highway 67 South, will decide when to start the farmer's market. The descendants of Frances America Billingsley and Abner Echols McGuire will holds its family reunion Sunday, June 3 at, First Christian Church in Prescott. A noon potluck dinner will be served in the fellowship hall of the church, followed by an afternoon of visiting and reminiscing. All relatives and friends of the McGuire and Billingsley families are invited. The Hempstead County Parkinson's Disease Support Group will meet at 1:30 today, May 16, in the McLarty Room at the Hope Train Depot. Valaree Hesse, occupational therapist with Heather Manor, will be the guest speaker. Her program will focus on activities of daily living and self care. Houston and Jaslyn Richardson are proud to announce the birth of their son, Garrett Houston, born Friday, May 4, 2001, at 8:37 a.m. at Baptist Medical Center in Arkadelphia. Garrett weighed eight pounds and two ounces and measured 20= inches long. He was welcomed home by his big sister, Kenzie. Grandparents are Amber and Eddie Hughes, John DeWoody and Sherry and David Crews, all of Prescott. The annual Blevins School reunion will be held Saturday, May 19, at Western Sizzlin in Hope in the banquet room. Registration and visitation begins at 3 p.m. A Dutch-treat buffet will be served at 6:30 p.m. A baby shower will be held for Heather Pruitt of Prescott on Wednesday, May 16, at 6:30 p.m. in the Boughton Baptist Church fellowship hall. The shower will be given by the ladies of the church. Everyone is welcome. The annual business and planning meeting for Nevada County Day Service Center, group home, Bright Beginnings Day Care, and Nevada County Recycling and Work Center will be Thursday, May 17, at 6 p.m. at the Day Service Center. This is a joint meeting for the board, parents, consumers and staff. New officers and directors will be elected and goals set for 2001-2002 fiscal year. There will be a board of directors meeting immediately following the annual business meeting. Board meetings are open to the public in compliance with the Freedom of Information Act. Any person who wishes to be placed on the agenda should contact the Day Service Center at 887-6675. The annual Mauldin reunion will be held Saturday, May 26, starting at 10:30 a.m. at Gurdon Lake on Highway 67. Everyone attending should take a dish for potluck. Sweet Home Baptist Church, located 10 miles east on Highway 24, will have a three-night revival May 23, 24 and 25 at 7:30. Rev. Richard Dixon of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Nashville will be the evangelist. Commodities (peanut butter, beef stew, blackeyed peas, macaroni, green beans, corn, potatoes and pears), will be issued in Nevada County at the Senior Citizens Center in Prescott beginning Thursday, June 14. All commodity cards have expired and must be renewed by Tuesday, June 12. No card renewals will be done on June 13 or 14. The monthly board meeting of the Prescott School District will be held Tuesday, May 22, at 6 p.m. in the conference room of the administrator building. Antioch Baptist Church of Laneburg will have its homecoming services May 20 at 10:30 a.m. Bro. James Adams will bring the message. Bro. Walt Doege will bring the devotional. Lunch at the church will be held with singing in the afternoon. Antioch Baptist Church of Laneburg will have revival services May 21, 22 and 23 at 7:30 p.m. Bro. Neal Ridling will be the evangelist. A retirement reception will be held Tuesday, May 22, at 10 a.m. for Betty Cloer at the Arkansas Department of Finance Revenue office, 147 East Second North. Betty has worked 23 years at the Prescott Revenue office. Refreshments will be served and everyone is invited to attend. The Laneburg Cemetery Association will hold its annual board meeting Monday, June 4 at 7 p.m. at the Laneburg Baptist Church. All interested parties are urged to attend.
