Wright Attends ConferencePublished Wednesday, April 28, 1999 in the Nevada County PicayuneRon Wright, superintendent of the Prescott School District, joined educators from around the country in Chicago April 11-14 for the 1999 annual meeting of the North Central Association (NCA) Commission on Schools. The theme of the four-day conference was 'Youth Today Leaders Tomorrow.' About 2,400 professional educators gathered to discuss issues related to school improvement. In addition, the conference provided professional development opportunities for participants and a forum for official business of the commission. Dr. Willard Daggett, president of the International Center for Leadership in Education, and Marian Leibowitz, educational consultant, were featured speakers. Along with the major speakers, over 110 breakout sessions geared to particular interests were provided. Topics included classroom management, assessment, block scheduling, performance based graduation requirements, inter-disciplinary teaming, core curriculum, distance education, writing across the curriculum, teacher evaluation, brain-based teaching, and understanding change. NCA is one of six regional accrediting associations in the United States and is recognized by the U.S. Office of Education. NCA is a non-government, independent third-party agency that provides accreditation and evaluation services to over 9,500 colleges and schools in a 19-state region.
