Red Springs EHC

"What was the last home canned food you ate?" was the roll call answered by 19 members of the Red Springs Extension Homemakers Club May 10 at the Gurdon Municipal Building. The favorite foods named were string beans and jellies. The program Safe Canning' was given by Sybil Harris.

Jean Smithey, director of the Public Schools' 21st Century Community of Learning Center project Prime Time' gave a program on summer school and activities for students this summer. As a club community project $50 was designated on the school's activities as going the extra mile.'

Flower arranging is the focus of the May 23 craft class to be taught by Stone Turtle florist.

County and club officers serving the next two years will attend a training meeting May 18 at 10:00 a.m. at the EHC Kitchen.

Wednesday, May 30, 9:30-11:00 a.m., the Clark County EH Clubs will be hosting the community coffee at the Town Hall on Caddo Street. Mary McBride and Elizabeth Wilson volunteered to bake cookies for this activity.

The club Homemaker of the Year was chosen. She is Sybil Harris. She will be in the race for County 2001, Homemaker of the Year at the Extension Homemakers Spring Council meeting June 27.

Robinette Cruise won the door prize and the food blessing was given by Jean Toland. Naomi Brown and Elizabeth Wilson served as the hostesses.

The afternoon was given to sorting and polishing large delicious red apples, placing them and a card of appreciation in bags to be given to employees of the three Gurdon Schools.
