Potlatch Announces Scholarship Winners

The Potlatch Foundation for Higher Education announced its award of 17 college scholarships valued at more than $95,000 to Arkansas high school graduates. The scholarships, worth $1,400 a year, are renewable on an annual basis for four years with each scholarship having a potential value of $5,600.

Mistie Holley of Prescott was the only local student receiving one of the scholarships this year.

Applicants from Arkansas, Minnesota and Idaho applied for the 80 scholarship that were awarded this year. The Potlatch scholarship program was established in 1952 and has helped more than 2,000 students seek a college education.

Potlatch Corporation, founded in 1903, is a diversified forest products company with 1.5 million acres of timberland in Arkansas, Idaho and Minnesota.

In Arkansas, Potlatch has 500,000 acres of timberland and employs almost 1,000 people. Manufacturing facilities in Arkansas are at Warren, Prescott and Cypress Bend near McGehee.
