Bluff City News

JERRY McKELVY
Published Wednesday, May 9, 2001 in the Nevada County Picayune

The weather cooperated last Sunday and those who attended the Bluff City homecoming were able to enjoy a good meal without the threat of rain. The crowd was not quite as

large this year, unless you count the Calorie family.

There was a surprise birthday party last Saturday for Herman McKelvy, who is celebrating his 80th birthday. Many of his friends and neighbors stopped by his home to help him celebrate.

Since Kay Nelson is in the chicken business, I would like to dedicate the following limerick to her.

There once was a lady from Oosta, who was annoyed by her roosta. She cut off his head, until he was dead and now he don't crow like he usta.

Since I occasionally poke innocent fun at some of my friends in this column, they made me promise to mention a little mistake I made last Sunday. Maybe this limerick will explain it.

There once was a man who attended a dinner in the middle of town, who dressed with one shoe black and one shoe brown. Even though his face was red, he stayed around to be fed, because he knew every circus needed to have a clown.

Here's a tidbit from the year 1918. The speed limit will be 10 m.p.h. within the city of Prescott and 15 m.p.h. outside the city. Citizens are warned to observe the speed limits or be arrested and fined.
