Top GHS Seniors Named; Graduation Is May 18

Leonard Gills, principal of Gurdon High School, has announced the top ten academic seniors of of this year's graduating class.

Commencement exercises will be Friday, May 18, at 7:00 p.m. at the football stadium if it is not raining. In case of rain the graduation ceremonies will be moved inside the gymnasium.

Co-valedictorians are Jodi Purifoy and Jordan Freer.

Jodi is the daughter of Danny and Lea Purifoy of Gurdon.

She has received the Presidential Academic Scholarship from Henderson State University. Jodi plans to attend HSU in the fall and major in pre-pharmacy.

Jordan is the son of Ron and Judy Freer of Gurdon.

He has received the Presidential Scholarship to the University of Central Arkansas. Jordan has been accepted into the University of Arkansas and Louisiana Tech University and plans to major in mechanical engineering.

Salutatorian is Joe Plyler, the son of Gary and Wendy Plyler of Gurdon.

He has received the University Academic Scholarship from Henderson State University and the Leadership Scholarship from the University of Arkansas. His plans are to attend Louisiana Tech University, where he will be majoring in the field of civil engineering.

The remaining top ten students for the class of 2001 are Emily Thomas, who plans to attend HSU this fall, where she has received a Presidential Scholarship.

Tommy White plans to attend the University of Arkansas.

Leah Edwards and Angela Long received University Scholarships from HSU, where they plan to attend this fall.

Ebonee Crow plans to attend the University of Central Arkansas in Conway, and Leslie Baumgardner, who is the recipient of the Wal-Mart Scholarship and the University Scholarship from HSU, where she plans to attend this fall.
