Angie and Jeff Barfield of Nashville happily announce the birth of their daughter, Hannah Grace, born Monday, April 30,. 2001. Hannah weighed 8 pounds and she was 20 inches long. She was welcomed home by her sister Ali Nocole Barfield.

Her grandparents are Mary Ellen and Jerrell Barfield, Dianne and Jimmy Clemonts and Mary McLaughlin, all from Nashville, and Mary Ruth Coplen of Gurdon. Great grandparents are Freda Sue and George Barfield of Bald Knob.

The Gurdon High School Go-Devil band with help from the Band Boosters and Gurdon Rotary will be holding the band auction and cookout Saturday, May 12, beginning at 11:00 a.m. at Thomason's Big Star parking lot. The silent auction will begin at 11:00 a.m. with the live auction beginning at 11:45 a.m. The meal, including a hamburger, chips and soft drink, will be $3. Proceeds will benefit the band camp scholarships.

The GHS band concert will be held Thursday, May 10, at 7:00 p.m. at the GHS cafeteria. Admission is free and everyone is encouraged to attend.

The descendants of Jesse and Mary Toland and Will and Nora Toland will be holding the Toland family reunion Sunday, May 20, at 12:00 noon at White Oak State Park. There will be a potluck luncheon served. For details call James Toland at 353-2616.

The GHS choir will present its annual spring pops concert Monday, May 14, at 7:00 p.m. in the GHS cafeteria. Admission is free and everyone is invited.

Friend-Ship Sidewalk Sunday School will be held at Gurdon City Park Saturday, May 19, beginning at 1:00 p.m. All children are invited to play games, sing songs and hear a Bible story. Transportation to the park is available by calling 353-2804. It is sponsored bye First Assembly of God.

Wednesday night meal at Beech Street Baptist Church will be held May 9 beginning at 5:30 p.m. in the fellowship hall. Takeouts will be available, but you must serve your own. Cost is $3 per adult, $2 per child, $10 per family. The meal includes taco casserole, seasoned green lima beans, assorted breads, Kentucky chocolate cake and banana pudding.

Associational Vacation Bible School Clinic is being held Thursday, May 10, at 7:00 p.m. at Southfork Baptist Church. All VBS leaders are encouraged to attend the clinic. For information call BSBC at 353-4971.

It's time for the annual Gurdon Area Joint Worship to be held Sunday, May 20, at 6:00 p.m. at Beech Street Baptist Church. This will also begin Associational Missions Week.

The Red River Baptist Associational children's camp will be June 25-28 at Camp Paron. Cost for each camper is $65. Camp director is Rusty Ross. Children who have completed third grade through sixth grade may attend. Call BSBC at 353-4971 for more information.

Learn how to improve meal planning for diabetics at the monthly diabetics education meeting Thursday, May 10, at 2:00 p.m. at the Clark County Fairgrounds EHC Kitchen in Arkadelphia.

Guest speaker will be Jackie Hurt, registered dietician with the Baptist Health System.

The Gurdon High School class of 1971 is planning its 30-year reunion. If you have addresses for graduates of 1971 call Dinah Buck at 353-4641 or Kathy Anderson at 353-3853.

The Red Springs Extension Homemakers Club meets every second Thursday of each month at the Gurdon Municipal building beginning at 10:00 a.m. Any interested person is welcome to attend.

The city of Gurdon reminds residents the storm sirens are tested every Wednesday at 12:00 noon. Sirens are not tested during inclement weather.

Gurdon Masonic Lodge 187 meets the first and third Tuesday of each month. All members are urged to attend.
