Names Narrowed For Park

There were 32 responses with names for the pocket park where the new mural is located.

The Prescott Beautification Committee held a name the park contest, getting more responses and suggestions than expected. The group met Friday, April 27, and cut the list down to two possible named.

Now, the public is being asked to pick which of these names it prefers. This can be done by calling the Prescott-Nevada County Chamber of Commerce by Friday, May 11, and picking one of the two.

The names suggested are: Whistle Stop park, because of the trains going through town, and the railroad industry being vital to the city's history; and Sterling Square, as the park is located where Sterling's five and dime was located, and the store represented the good things in a small town.

Whichever name is tabbed as the winner, means $50 for the person who submitted it.

Mary Godwin, executive director of the Chamber, said people wanting to vote must call the Chamber at 887-2101, given their name and selection. There is only one vote per person, she said.
