An exciting spirit of friendly competition prevailed at the fifth annual Spelling Bee for Literacy which was held on Friday, April 16, in the Prescott Elementary School cafetorium.

The new winning team is the city of Prescott.

Team members are Perry Nelson, Joey Nelson and Buddy Carter. They take the traveling trophy from last year's winner, Bank of Prescott.

The Kiwanis team was first runner-up. The members are Ron Wright, Gina Wendle and Barry Barber.

The coveted spirt stick was won by Day Service team, consisting of Doris Neimeyer, Aaron Burke and Marcia Mixon.

Wendy Burrus of Hope was the pronouncer.

Each team was able to complete several rounds before being eliminated.

Judges Jane Randolph, Jeanie Taylor, Kelly Jones kept everyone on time and accurate.

The annual spelling bee is one of the literacy program's major fund raisers for the year. The program provides free learning and tutoring for those who need help in learning to read, do math, English as a second language, and job and life skills.

New computers now ready for use in the tutoring rooms. Call 1-870-887-5536 if you are someone you know needs help in any of these areas of learning.
