Deadline for entering all sporting events at the 14th Annual Chicken and Egg Festival have been set for May 25.

This year's festival will be held Friday and Saturday, June 1-2, at the Prescott City Park, with a full slate of activities planned once again.

At this time, Mary Godwin, executive director of the Prescott-Nevada County Chamber of Commerce, said orders are being taken for festival T-shirts.

This year's shirts will be lime green, except for size XXX, which is orange, bearing the design of local primitive artist, Spot Daniel. Prices will be $9 through size large, $10 for X and XX large, and $11 for XXX large.

Godwin has ordered 200 shirts to start with, and the orders will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

Businesses, industries and others are asked to wear the shirts on Fridays before the festival to help promote the event.

The shirts should be in this week, she said.

The festival will again kick off with the Rotary Chicken in the Rough dinner Friday evening, along with the musical entertainment on the stage, and first rounds of the various tournaments.

Saturday will open with the Kiwanis Old Time Country Breakfast, followed by the 5K run/walk and kids Chicken Chase fun run.

There have been few changes to the festival events this year, Godwin said, but one is in the weightlifting event. The details haven't been worked out yet, and will be announced when they are.

Once again, there will be the Chickie pen for children, where they can participate in face painting, making necklaces, have a coloring contest, look for eggs in a haystack, play in the duck pond and enjoy the ring toss.

There will also be the traditional hunt for the golden egg, along with the balloon liftoff and egg toss competition.

The cackling and crowing contest has proven to be a popular event, and will again be held at the festival.

Another favorite event, the Little Mister Rooster and Little Miss Hen pageant will be held on stage at 2 p.m. Again, details aren't ready yet, and will be announced when they are.

Godwin said anyone wanting to perform in the variety show should contact the Chamber.

And, she added, those local businesses interested in having a booth at the festival should also contact the Chamber. Booth spaces are going for $25 each.
