Pollins' Record Is SpotlessBYKAY DAVIS AND ASHELY HARRISPublished Wednesday, May 2, 2001 in the Gurdon Times Having missed only one day of work in five years of employment seems unattainable for most employees but not for Jimmy Pollins, it's the way he operates. Pollins has been an Operator II for SGL Technic Inc. since its opening at the Clark County Industrial Park in Gum Springs, just south of Arkadelphia. In his five years at SGL Pollins has observed many changes. Initially the plant was only a shell of a building. As employees were hired they did not know how to make the graphite foil. The first rolls produced fell apart. Within a month the process was perfected and rolls of foil were being produced for shipment to customers. Pollins and other employees have helped SGL Technic attain the internationally recognized manufacturers certification of ISO 9000 in July 1997. That same year they received certification by NASA to process fabric for the space shuttle. In January 2001, they received certification in internationally recognized automotive industry standards certification of QS 9000. When asked about working at SGL and his attendance record Pollins said, "I like my job and it's the kind of job you appreciate. I don't care for missing time or being late." He said the company makes it a fun and safe place to work. Pollins has a good relationship with fellow employees and enjoys spending time with them at company functions and the annual picnic. Other employees seem to take notice of Pollins's positive attitude and attendance record. Theresa Dodd, purchasing clerk, considers Pollins to be an outstanding employee. Pollins sets a standard for the other employees at SGL. He and his co-workers know the meaning of hard work, dedication and loyalty to a company. They have a drive to perfect the quality of their product. These five years of excellence have proven to be an example that SGL will continue to follow.
