Davis Inducted Into Phi Theta Kappa At UACCHPublished Wednesday, May 2, 2001 in the Gurdon TimesCynthia C. Davis of Gurdon, a student at University of Arkansas Community College at Hope, has been inducted into the Beta Beta Kappa Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, an international honor society for two-year colleges. There were 27 in all who were inducted during a candlelight ceremony Sunday, April 8, in the Rapert Library Complex auditorium on campus. With membership based on academic achievement, students must have earned at least a 3.5 cumulative grade-point average after completing 12 semester hours of courses. A minimum 3.5 GPA must also be maintained until graduation. "We at UACCH are extremely proud of our students' accomplishments and are excited to have them as new members of Phi Theta Kappa," said advisor Thomas Radelmiller. "We have many big events planned for the upcoming year." In March the Beta Beta Kappa chapter was named one of the top 25 chapters worldwide for its numerous projects held to promote the four hallmarks of Phi Theta Kappa leadership, service, fellowship and scholarship. The chapter was also dubbed the best in the Oklahoma-Arkansas region. Established in 1918 by Missouri two-year college presidents, Phi Theta Kappa serves to recognize and encourage the academic achievement of two-year college students and provide opportunities for individual growth and development through honors, leadership and service programming. Today Phi Theta Kappa is the largest honor society in American higher education with more than 1.3 million members and 1,100 chapters located in 50 states, U.S. territories, Canada, Germany and Japan. In 1929 the American Association of Community Colleges recognized Phi Theta Kappa as the official honor society for two-year colleges. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
