Sam Vick Scott, 88, of Hot Springs, formerly of Prescott, died Monday, April 23, 2001, at the VA Foster Home in Jacksonville.

Mr. Scott was born December 12, 1912, in Prescott to Hunter and Nina Burks Scott. He was a retired major in the Arkansas National Guard, 153rd Infantry, with 40 years service. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Hot Springs, a member of the American Legion, a World War II veteran where he was a survivor of D-Day on the beaches of France. He received a Silver Star, Bronze Star and a Purple Heart, the European Theatre Ribbon and a combat Infantry Medal defending his country.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Ruby Crumby Scott of Hot Springs; one son, Sam Vick Scott Jr. and his wife Kim of Cabot; two daughters, Ann Scott Algee and her husband Harold and Kay Scott Carnes and her husband Tom, all of Hot Springs; one sister, Helen Banergraff of Houston, Texas; and eight grandchildren, Paul Algee, Carrie Algee, Samantha Carnes, Lindsey Carnes, Hunter Scott, Hayden Scott, Scott Carnes and Holden Scott.

Funeral services will be held today, Wednesday, April 25, at 4:00 p.m. Brazzel/Cornish Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in Snell Cemetery in Emmet under the direction of Brazzel/Cornish Funeral Home of Prescott.
