Summer Activity Planning Begins

Jean Smithey, director of the Prime Time project, has begun to work on planning the summer activities.

The first annual Going the Extra Mile in Gurdon' fund-raiser has begun.

Smithey proposes a $2 donation from anyone wishing to assist local students to got the extra mile.

"Summer is soon approaching and the children and youth will be faced with many extra hours of free time on their hands," Smithey said. "We as a community could come together to enrich the lives of your youth by providing the funds for them to participate in field trips."

The first mile' challenge will provide field trips for children from kindergarten through the 11th grade. One dollar will for one mile will help a student travel one mile on a bus. Students would pay for the activity.

Field trips will be announced in The Gurdon Times.

The second mile' funds will provide money for scholarships. They will be given based upon the need through use of an application.

Anyone can donate money towards this project by making a check payable to: Gurdon Public Schools, c/o Jean Smithey, Gurdon High School, Highway 67 South, Gurdon, AR 71743.

Chaperones and other volunteers are also needed. If you would like to volunteer call 353-4123.
