Easter Bonnet Parade Held

Published Wednesday, April 25, 2001 in the Gurdon Times

Gurdon Senior Adult Center (GSAC) was the scene of an Easter parade the whole city would have enjoyed. An estimated 30 senior adults, men and women, made the center their fashion runway in their Easter bonnets.

Judges had a hard job Friday, April 13, deciding which Easter bonnet was the best. Good Friday was especially good for the ladies and gentlemen who enjoyed the fun and their creations.

Winner in the ladies' group was Ann Smith, best in show, with a lovely straw hat with magazine clippings of Easter themes. But her style of modeling was most impressive to the judges.

Other winners were first runner-up: Bernice Freeman; second runner-up: Eulah Wilson; third runner-up: Pauline Nelson; and honorable mention: Joyce Quillin.

Winners in the men's group were Doug Quillin, best in show; Ellis Stafford, first place; Watson Smith, second place; Harold Everitt, third place; and Daryl Protratz, honorable mention.

Judges for the event were Cabe Middle School (CMS) principal Jeff Alexander, CMS fifth grade math and science teacher, Shelia Butler, Col. Charles Bullard (retired), and Thomerson's Drug Store associate Dinah Lue Brown. Activities director for GSAC,

Royce Ann Barbaree expressed her gratitude to the judges and others who participated for their time and consideration.
