Testing Planned For Prescott SchoolsPublished Wednesday, April 18, 2001 in the Nevada County PicayunePrescott students in grades four, six and eight will be taking the Arkansas Comprehensive Testing, Assessment and Accountability program (ACTAAP) Benchmark examination Monday, April 23, through Thursday, April 26. This test focuses on testing to measure application of basic skills and problem-solving skills that are essential to the success of students in school. They will identify those students who may be in need of additional instruction in language, arts and mathematics. It is important for parents to be aware of the purpose of the Benchmark examinations and the dates for testing. It is also essential that parents be involved in students' ongoing preparation for testing, as well as preparation immediately preceding testing. When a test is given parents can help by making sure their student: gets plenty of sleep the night before the test; has breakfast on the morning of the test; goes to school on the day of the test; knows parents think he/she will do well on the test; knows parents understand that the test is important; and takes two number two pencils to school. Students in grade 11 will take the literacy end of course examination on Tuesday, April 24, and Wednesday, April 25. Students who have completed algebra I will take the algebra I end of course examination on Wednesday, May 2. Students who have completed geometry will take the geometry end of course examination on Thursday, May 3. These examinations are intended to provide administrators and educators with student, school and district-level information regarding local instruction.
