Mattie ScottPublished Wednesday, April 18, 2001 in the Nevada County PicayuneMattie Scott, 88, of Prescott passed away Thursday, March 29, 2001, at Medical Park Hospital in Hope. Mrs. Scott was the widow of Rev. H. H. Scott. She was born Mattie Ruth Williams on April 13, 1913, in Blevins. As a young child she became a member of Elizabeth A.M.E. Church, which later consolidated with Green Hill A.M.E. Church of Prescott. On April 16, 1932, she was united in holy wedlock to Rev. H. H. Scott. She served by her husband's side in the West Arkansas Conference of the African Methodist Episcopal Church on the Magnolia, Gurdon and Hot Springs Districts. She was children's Sunday School teacher, church pianist and choir member, youth counselor and, as she grew older, an advisor to young ministers' wives. She was always ready with her "Amen" to the gospel wherever it was preached. Mrs. Scott became a member of St. Paul A.M.E. Church in Arkadelphia after Rev. Scott superannuated as an itinerate pastor. She remained a faithful member with her title and advice. She leaves to cherish her life a loving daughter and son-in-law, Kathryn and Sam Wiley of Prescott; four grandchildren, Marcus (Aundria), Cameron, Samantha and Brandon Wiley of Prescott; one great grandson, Marty Wiley of Prescott; a special sister-in-law, Una Mae Harris of Little Rock; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Funeral services were held at St. Paul AME Church in Arkadelphia Tuesday, April 3, with Rev. James H. Thomas III delivering the eulogy.
