Bluff City NewsJERRY McKELVYPublished Wednesday, April 18, 2001 in the Nevada County Picayune Easter weekend was a soggy one, but Sunday afternoon was very nice. We received about five inches of rainfall, which should make the grass grow. James Nelson said his calves were getting tired of eating pine needles. Funeral services for Carolyn Byrd were held Saturday, April 14, at Bluff City Church of Christ. She and Don were former residents of Bluff City, but had been in Bentonville for several years. It is getting close to the time for the annual Bluff City School reunion. It will be Saturday, May 5, at the Hale Community Center in Prescott. It will be potluck lunch this year, so bring your favorite dish and plan to arrive about 10:30 or 11:00 a.m. Drinks will be provided. I see from last week's paper that April 21 is the day for rabies shots to be given to dogs and cats with stops made at several locations in the county. It seems that this part of the county is always overlooked when these shots are given. The nearest location for Bluff City residents is Redland or Rosston. If you would like a stop in Bluff City next year call the county extension agent and voice your concerns. Unless they hear from you, you can bet nothing will change. In the meantime load up Fido (or Phydeaux if your dog is educated) and Fluffy and drive to one of the locations to get the shots. According to old newspapers, there was a mad dog scare in Bluff City back in 1936. Nobody was bitten, but several dogs had to be killed. Just think what problems could arise if your dog bit someone and you could not prove it had been vaccinated according to state law. Millard and Elloene McBride were in Russellville for several days, visiting Millard's older brother, who was celebrating a birthday. Charles and Patricia Farr have been far away in Tennessee the last few days. Abraham Lincoln once said, "It's a good rule never to send a mouse to catch a skunk or a polliwog to catch a whale."
