Session Good For CountyBY JOHN MILLERPublished Wednesday, April 28, 1999 in the Nevada County Picayune Nevada County benefitted well from the recent legislative meeting. Overall, the county received $1.1 million through legislation passed by the general assembly. Of this, $1 million is to build a new library in downtown Prescott, with $50,000 going to the county's volunteer fire departments. The other $60,000 is for improvements at the Nevada County Fairgrounds. State Rep. Percy Malone, co-chairman of the joint budget committee, worked to help get this money for the county. Of the money allocated for the volunteer fire departments, each such entity in Nevada County will receive $5,000. This money can be used in any manner the departments so choose, but most, he said, will likely use it to purchase computer equipment. The funds allocated to the Nevada County Fair Association will be used to upgrade and improve the buildings on the fairgrounds. "A lot of people visit the fairgrounds," Malone said, "and I felt the need to offer assistance to make these much-needed improvements." The fairgrounds, he said, are used to help young people with their 4-H and Future Farmer's of America projects. "This can help them grow to be proud citizens. The effort is to show the young we support their being involved in the various activities." Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
