Clark County Quorum Court was informed of funds received toward the estimated $2.8 million in disaster damages.

Funds received in March totaling $1,046,110.53 have been applied to the recovery from the ice storm of 2000 and the most recent flooding disaster.

Clark County Judge Floyd "Buddy" Manning had reported at last month's meeting the funds for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) bills would be paid out of the road department's budget. Manning commented on expecting the reimbursement.

An architect is being sought now for the construction of a new woman's dormitory and kitchen facilities. The court originally considered renovating the old health department building.

JP John Howard commented "If the differences in estimates are only $40,000 between renovating and building new, we should build and get what we need. I've spoken with the sheriff extensively."

According to Howard, "We'll have to do something to alleviate the population in the jail."

The court now has time between meetings to consider decisions affecting the budget.

Henry Morgan, Clark County prosecutor, reported his need for an increase in office help. "Extra help is needed to handle the increased case load," he said. "We must have a legal secretary and have been operating with part-time help."

Morgan commented on the office's self sufficiency with emphasis on independent office space. The request for the salary will now go to the budget committee.

Members for the ordinance committee have been chosen by Manning. JP's Albert Neal and Jonathan Huber will look for antiquated ordinances with the purpose of the court disposing of them.

The Clark County Library has purchased property to expand services and parking. Adjoining property will soon be marked for library parking, according to Manning.
