Classy Moments from Cabe Middle School

Published Wednesday, April 18, 2001 in the Gurdon Times

Several fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth graders were rewarded with a trip to Play By Play amusements center for children in Hot Springs Thursday, April 12.

Those students had to earn a certain amount of points for reading. Different books provided different point values. Each had a delicious sack lunch provided by our cafeteria employees. They were enjoyed like a big picnic.

A big thanks to the teachers, Kay Downey, Michelin Morehead and Cent Clark for making the arrangements for this field trip for the students and a great big thanks to the parents who went along on the trip. It was so nice to have Debra Davies accompany the group.

We seem to get settled into warm weather and suddenly it rains and then we are cold again. Is it that way with you, or it is just us? Guess we are difficult to please all of the time.

Cabe Middle School Student Council election is under way. Students who were interested in running for an office met with Ann Clingan Friday to receive their instructions for completion of their petitions and directions of how to campaign. Several students are eagerly getting those petitions completed. Only the seventh grade students are eligible to seek the offices of president and vice president, as they will be eighth-graders next school year.

If you have not driven by and seen our new sign, hopefully you can do so soon. Don't just read it from the front, but drive around and read the message on the back few words, but powerful words.

Found out this week that one of our eighth grade students has tried to push time, as though it is not going by fast enough. She was told just before a test that the date was 4-12-01, but Amy Stiffler decided to go ahead and make it 4-21-01. Where have we failed? Don't worry. We won't give up on you, Amy. Sometimes it's real easy to transpose the numbers.

Benchmark tests will be administered April 23 through 26 for grades fifth, sixth and eighth. These students should get a good night's sleep and have a good breakfast before coming to school.

Test, field trips, class time. Busy? You bet. Classy Moments are constantly in effect at CMS.
