New Gurdon Track Brings Fourth Place Finish

Gurdon High School hosted its first track meet ever for the new facilities and placed fourth overall.

DeQueen placed first in the overall, with Ashdown and Genoa Central rounding off the top three.

Denet Brown took first place in the high jump event with a height of 5'.

Gurdon male students brought in first place in two events, four by 400m Relay and Long Jump. The Go-Devils relay team, Dennis Brown, Kentrell House, Cameron Dickerson and Cevin Lasker, completed the relay in 3:47. They carried first place with a minutes difference from Genoa Central.

Gurdon High School senior, Chris Thompson beat the competition in the long jump with a distance of 20'1/4".

Competing in the four by 800m were Scott Rodgers, Jake Plyler, Kentrell House and Derrick Gosney with a team time of 9:47. Gurdon placed third with the win going to DeQueen with a time of 9:06.

In the four by 100m relay the Go-Devil team placed third with a time of 45.91. Cevin Lasker, Chris Thompson, O.C. Webster and John Watson made up the team. Ashdown took the even with a time of 44:67.

In the 800m relay teamates, Dennis Brown, Torre Dixon, Cevin Lasker and O.C. Webster, placed third with a time of 1:41. Ashdown placed first with a time of 1:33.62.

Vanesha Young placed first in the ladies 400m dash with a time of 1:09.14. She beat the Genoa Central student by 46 seconds.

Vanesha also placed third in the 100m dash with a time of 13.65.

Go-Devil Cameron Dickerson placed second in the 400m dash with a time of 54.75.

LaVader Dickens competed in shot for the ladies with a distance of 27'10". The winning distance for the ladies was 32'3".

Gurdon student, Eddie Fort completed a shot distance of 41'7". He also competed in the disc placing third with a distance of 104'11".The shot event was taken by Genoa Central with a distance of 46'11" and disc with a distance of 148'4".

Brandon Dempsey, GHS sophomore, still in his second year of track, put a good effort into his pole vaulting. Bright Star High school took the event with a height of 7'6".

Go-Devil Jake Plyler competed in the 800m run with a time of 2:21.86.

Go-Devils, John Watson and Chris Thompson both competed in the 200m dash.

Competing in the 800m run event Sharonda Bell completed the run in 2:59.66. Genoa Central took the win with a time of 2:18.42.

The Lady Go-Devils relay teams placed second in the 3,200m relay and the 800m relay.
