Sheriff Arrests Man For Fifth DWI ChargeBY JOHN MILLERPublished Wednesday, April 11, 2001 in the Nevada County Picayune For some people the learning curve is a flat line. Take the case of Robert Darryl Robinson, who has been charged with his fifth driving while under the influence charge. The fifth DWI offense is an unclassified felony carrying a punishment of one to six years in the Arkansas Department of Correction and a fine from $900 to $5,000. According to court records, Nevada County Sheriff Steve Otwell was driving west on Highway 299 east of Emmet when he saw a vehicle being driven in an unsafe manner. In fact, according to the report, the vehicle was weaving across the road. Otwell stopped the vehicle and recognized Robinson, who is from Emmet, when he got out. Robinson, according to the records, had no idea where he was and believed he was on Interstate 30. In addition he allegedly couldn't walk straight and his speech was slurred. Otwell did a field sobriety test, which Robinson failed. Robinson's eyes quivered, he was unable to balance on one leg past the count of three, and he couldn't walk in a heel-to-toe manner, according to Otwell. He was then taken to the Nevada County Sheriff's Office, where a breath test was given. Records show he registered 0.25 percent, with the legal limit for DWI being 0.1 percent. Deputy Danny Martin ran a check on Robinson's driver's license and found the four previous DWI charges. Three of these occurred in Hope with the fourth in Scott County. Additionally, the second, third and fourth offenses happened during an eight-month period in 1997. Robinson was given a court-appointed attorney, Danny Rodgers, and had his bond set at $2,500.
