A Texarkana, Texas man has been charged with possession of a controlled substance in Nevada County.

According to court records, Nevada County Sheriff's deputy Danny Martin was patrolling along Highway 371 near Prescott when he saw a red Ford pickup cross the center lane, then cross the fog line.

He stopped the truck, and asked the driver, Russell Dean Taylor, 41, for his driver's license. Taylor handed him a Veteran's Administration card instead.

Martin ran a check on the card and found there were no records for it on file.

He then ran the license plate numbers through the Arkansas Crime Information Center (ACIC) network. The information returned showed the plates on the Ford actually belonged on a 1992 Chevrolet pickup.

Martin ran the vehicle identification number through the ACIC and found it also belonged to a different vehicle.

Taylor was told he would be searched, and when he opened his coat Martin saw a plastic bag inside another plastic bag in the shirt pocket. The smaller plastic bag contained a white substance believed to be methamphetamine.

Taylor was arrested and taken to the Nevada County jail, with the methamphetamine turned over to the Drug Task Force.

Bond was set at $15,000, and Taylor was given a court-appointed attorney, Danny Rodgers.

Taylor was charged with possession of a controlled substance, methamphetamine. This is a class C felony with a punishment of 3-10 years in prison and a fine up to $10,000. He was also cited for having no driver's license, no proof of insurance and fictitious tags, all misdemeanors.
