Annual Easter Egg Hunt Saturday At FairgroundsBY JOHN MILLERPublished Wednesday, April 11, 2001 in the Nevada County Picayune Saturday is the day for the Seventh Annual Prescott-Nevada County Chamber of Commerce Easter Egg Hunt. There have been some changes made for the hunt this year. According to Chamber director Mary Godwin, the event has been moved to the Nevada County Fairgrounds at the Potlatch Building this year. The reasons, she said, is the hunt has grown so much over the past six years there is no more room to hold it at the Nevada County Courthouse. There was the issue of safety with small children near a major state highway, she added. The move, Godwin said, will give children a chance to actually hunt the eggs this year, instead of walking around and picking them up. The hunt will be held from 10 a.m. until noon Saturday, April 14, with four age divisions for the hunters. Those children ages 1-2 will hunt from 10-10:30 a.m., followed by the 3- and 4-year-old group from 10:30-11 a.m. Next will be the 5- to 7-year-old age group from 11-11:30 a.m., with the 8- and 9-year old group finishing the hunt up. A golden egg will be hidden for each age division. The children finding it will receive a large, stuffed Easter bunny. Godwin said there will be about 2,800 eggs hidden overall, each containing a prize or candy. There will also be 80 special eggs hidden with a letter written on them. These eggs can be turned in at the prize table, where the finder can select a prize. There will be more to do than hunt Easter eggs, though. Godwin said there will be face painting, a ring toss game, a duck pond, balloons, sack races, a three-legged race, basketball throw and the opportunity for photos with the Easter bunny. The Artesian Arts League has procured a balloon artist to tie balloons into various shapes for the children. A concession stand has been donated by the First United Methodist Church and will have free hot dogs and soft drinks available. However, each child needs to furnish their own basket and must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Along with the Easter bunny, the famed Prescott chicken will be on hand to greet the children.
