Justice moved swiftly in the case of a Gurdon man being charged with domestic battery, as he was sentenced within two days of the crime.

According to reports from the Gurdon Police Department, officer Andy Williams was on patrol driving down South First Street when he saw a woman in the road.

She was holding an infant in her arms. The child had a cut on its head and was bleeding.

Williams asked what had happened and was told Felicia Edwards, 26, had came out of her house into the street with the baby, giving it to her and telling her to call the police.

Williams told the woman to take the child to the Gurdon ambulance bay station, then went to the house in question.

Upon arrival, according to the report, he saw Edwards laying beside her car crying. He told her to stay down and not move, but she got up anyway.

The report states Edwards' behaved in a hysterical manner, and it was difficult to get any information from her.

Williams checked inside the house, looking for Ivory Young, finding no one. He did see a broken beer bottle near the front door.

After calming Edwards down somewhat, Williams learned Young, 32, had pushed her and hurt her back while inside the house. Additionally, she told Williams Young had hit the child with the beer bottle.

Shortly thereafter, the ambulance arrived with the child and picked up Edwards.

About this time, officer Gary Marshal and City Marshal Don Childres arrived. The three were told Young had been seen around Tate Street. He was later picked up and arrested.

Young told the officers he had been in a fight with Edwards and had struck the child, but accidentally.

Young was charged with two counts of domestic battery in the third degree.

By Thursday, April 5, Young had pled guilty to both charges and was sentenced to one year each on two counts. The two sentences are to be served consecutively.
