Golden Oldies

DORIS VANCE
Published Wednesday, April 11, 2001 in the Gurdon Times

Last week we played bingo, had an Easter egg toss game and Jerry Don Childres brought the second graders to sing for us. The theme of the musical was Good Friends. They did a fantastic job.

We all tried to guess how many chocolate eggs there were in a jar. Watson Smith guessed the closest to the number, so he got the eggs.

We will have our monthly council meeting April 10.

The Gurdon Go-Devils band will play for us today, Wed., April 11.

The seniors will model our Easter hats Friday.

We love having Doris and Daryl Protratz with us again. Our singing is lots better when Doris plays the piano and Daryl leads the singing. We also enjoy the piano playing of Jewell Kyle, Bud Gulledge and Billie Jean Miller.

Royce Ann is doing a very good job planning activities for us. We would love for everyone to come and join us.

A tribute to the three of the seniors who passed away so close together.

The Death Angel

Junior preached the word of God,

He suffered pain for years,

The Death Angel took him away,

and left us all in tears.

Nadine was a Cover Girl,

she helped us quilt each day,

again the angel came,

and took her life away.

Bennie loved to laugh and tease,

he tried hard to win the race,

but once again that angel came,

and took him from this place.

All three are sorely missed,

our hearts are oh, so sad,

thank God they're in a better place,

and that makes our hearts glad.

Junior says, "prepare,"

Nadine says, "I care,"

Bennie says, "Not fair,"

the angel says, "I'll be there."
