News That Matters To GurdonPublished Wednesday, April 11, 2001 in the Gurdon TimesBeech Street Baptist Church will hold a children's Easter egg hunt Saturday, April 14, at 10:00 a.m. on the church grounds. Call the church for more information, 353-4971. All business owners who have not renewed their business license need to do so as soon as possible. Those failing to do so could be fined. Call city treasure/reporter Tambra Smith at 353-2514. An Easter parade will be held at the Gurdon Senior Adult Center on Good Friday. Center members can participate Friday, April 13, at 10:45 a.m. in an Easter bonnet contest with male and female categories. Seniors with their decorated or new bonnets/hats and/or entire outfits will walk the parade route to be viewed by judges and the public. Prizes will be awarded. The public is welcome to attend and enjoy lunch with the seniors. Cost of non-member meal is $5. The Clark County chapter of the Arkansas State Employees Association (A.S.E.A.) will meet Tuesday, April 10, from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Clark County Health Unit in Arkadelphia. All state employees in Clark County are invited to attend. A.S.E.A. field representative Marc Watts will give a presentation about the effects on state employees of the most recent legislative session. Carrie Street Church of God will celebrate the pastoral anniversary April 15 at 3:00 p.m. Rev. Ivory Curry is the pastor. Everyone is invited. The DeGray Women's Golf Association is now forming for the season, April 25-Sept.26, at Lake DeGray State Park Golf Course. Tee times begin at 9:00 a.m. and sign-ups anytime. The Red Springs Extension Homemakers Club meets every second Thursday of each month at the Gurdon Municipal building beginning at 10:00 a.m. Any interested person is welcome to attend. The city of Gurdon reminds residents the storm sirens are tested every Wednesday at 12:00 noon. Sirens are not tested during inclement weather. Gurdon Masonic Lodge 187 meets the first and third Tuesday of each month. All members are urged to attend. All former students who attended Okolona High School are invited to attend the biannual reunion Saturday, May 5, at the Okolona High School beginning at 9:00 a.m. Bring your own sandwich in paper sack, wrapped in newspaper, or molasses bucket. Drinks will be provided. Children can trade a hard-boiled egg for a tasty treat and sign up for a cool children's gospel video this Sunday, April 15, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Just stop by the pavilion at the city park and present your favorite egg. A "Sonrise" service will be held at Gurdon First Assembly of God, 1007 East Main, at 8:00 a.m., Sunday, April 15. Following the service, men of the church will cook breakfast. Sunday school will be at 10:00 a.m.; worship service at 10:45 a.m. Everyone is invited to attend any of the services and breakfast. Brandy Ballard and Daniel Wayne King of Gurdon announce the birth of their daughter Nicky King, born Tuesday, March 27, 2001. She weighed 6 pounds and 4 ounces and was 19 inches long She is the granddaughter of Peggy Keeling of Gurdon, Gary and Becky McDermott of Hope and Danny and Vicki King of Hope.
