Stuffed Animals Wanted

Terre Noire 4-H Club is beginning its community project to benefit children.

Beginning Wednesday, April 11, in area stores and businesses the public will see boxes marked for the collection of stuffed animals for the Clark County Sheriff's Department.

In Gurdon and Arkadelphia the public is encouraged to donate stuffed animals, no larger than a gallon sized Zip-Loc bag, to be given to children who the Sheriff's Department come into contact with during stressful and at traumatic times.

The collection will continue until May 1, when the 4-H club will present the animals to the Sheriff's Department.

Businesses with donation boxes are Firstar Bank, K&T Clothing, The Gurdon Times, First State Bank, Gurdon Municipal Building, Cabe Library and Arkadelphia Cleaners at both locations.

Barbecue Contest Finals

The Clark County Extension Service held a county 4-H broiler barbecue contest March 24 at the fairgrounds.

The contestants prepared half a broiler on a charcoal grill of their choice. The young cooks were learning correct handling and preparation of poultry for food safety.

The blue ribbon winners will represent Clark County in the district 4-H barbecue contest, which will be held at the fairgrounds in Arkadelphia this coming Saturday, April 14.

Blue ribbons were presented to Kristin Land, Jessica Land, Cynthia Jackson, Jake Pennington and Jessican Smillie. Luke Pennington won a red ribbon.
