Spot Daniels To Be Featured

Virgil Spot' Daniel, a Prescott resident, will be featured in a segment during EGG the arts show, airing Friday, April 6, at 9:00 p.m. on AETN.

The one minute segment features Daniel and his art.

EGG the arts show, a new 36-part series, takes viewers off the beaten path to focus on the excitement, diversity and raw energy of the arts nationwide.

EGG is about people making art across America. Whether it's exploring the work of an artist whose canvas is an Arizona crater or climbing a California hillside with a bonsai master, the series takes viewers on a cultural sightseeing tour.

In addition to Daniel, the show's cast of characters features would famous artists, such as Jeff Koons, Damien Hirst, August Wilson and Janine Antoni. It also features yodellers, experimental film makers and ballroom dancers.

Daniel, who began painting at the age of 66, calls his paintings "el spotros" and signs his work with a capitol D with a period in the middle of the D.

He paints animal and human figures, scenes and still life in bright colors on cardboard, canvas and wood panels. They range in size from miniatures to murals. He is capable of portraiture, but he accentuates certain features to reveal personality.

Through distortions he conveys individual character. Adroitly he expresses his own wit and good humor in his characterizations. For instance his birds often look sassy. Golfing, Daniel's favorite hobby, has inspired numerous satirical and amusing charicatures.
